La Volta Ciclista a Catalunya will celebrate its 100th edition this year 2021, from 22 to 28 March. An exceptional milestone that deserves several commemorations, including the birth of la cicloVolta, a cycling tour that will be held on July 11 and aims to bring together fans of the Tour in a march that will end at Vallter 2000 resort.
Starting in Camprodon and ending in Vallter 2000, la cicloVolta will have two routes suitable for different levels, with distances of 90 km and 149 km. The march will stand out for its toughness with the chaining of several ports that have already been tested during the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya.
In fact, one of the great attractions of the march, although not competitive, will be to be able to compare the time of ascent to the port of Vallter 2000 with that of the best cyclists in the world, as four months before they will have done so during the course of the 100th edition of la Volta Ciclista a Catalunya.
The route will pass through the counties of Ripollès and La Garrotxa, and in the long distance you will have to ascend the ports of Oix, Beget and Rocabruna before the great final ascent to Vallter 2000, a port that is becoming a reference cycling tourist destination. In la Volta, runners such as the Swiss Tony Rominger (1992), the Colombian Nairo Quintana (2013), the American Tejay Van Garderen (2014) and more recently the British Adam Yates (2019) have won.
“We want to celebrate with all the fans of la Volta a cycling tour that allows them to ride with us and have the feeling that they are competing in a stage of la Volta. This year 2021 must be the year of good news, despite being aware that strict health protocols will still need to be implemented. The final stage of Vallter 2000 in July is ideal to put yourself to the test and enjoy a spectacular cycling day ", said the president of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Associació Esportiva, Rubèn Peris.
Registrations are limited and can be done soon from the specific website of the event (www.ciclovolta.cat). Those registered for the first fortnight will enjoy a promotional discount on the registration price and all participants in the march will receive a commemorative jersey, designed by GOBIK, as a gift. In addition to this exclusive jersey, participants will also enjoy various services such as refreshments and a runner’s bag.
Over the next few weeks, la cicloVolta website will be publishing the news and features of the march. The event was born with the institutional support of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, Vallter 2000 resort and Camprodon City Council, which are joining this project which aims to be a great commemoration of the 100th edition of la Volta, a figure that has only been achieved in stage trials by the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia.
